Five teams that could select a mid-round quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft

There are a handful of quarterbacks that have the potential to go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but not all the teams that draft a quarterback will do so in the first round.

Not only is this quarterback class talented at the top with Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson and Trey Lance, but it’s deep as well. Quarterbacks like Mac Jones, Kyle Trask and Desmond Ridder make this 2021 NFL Draft quarterback class intriguing for a lot of reasons.

With so many quarterbacks available with strong skill sets, we might see teams hold out until the second, third or even fourth round to take a quarterback who can still have an impact early in their careers. This has happened in the past and it could very well happen again this year.

In the playoffs this year, there are three starting quarterbacks that were selected outside the first round. Drew Brees was the first pick of the second round while Russell Wilson went 75th and of course Tom Brady at pick 199.

So while the top quarterbacks will go in the first 10 picks or so, there are still plenty of prospects that could fall into the later picks and still end up being the starting quarterback on the team that selects them, but what teams will be looking for those players?

Often times, the teams that take a mid-round quarterback pick too low in the first for a top talent and have a player leaving in free agency or close to retirement. Once again, that’s the case in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Now, this isn’t to say that Desmond Ridder is the next Russell Wilson or Kyle Trask is the next Tom Brady. Rather that these players could end up on the following teams that are likely to take a quarterback in the middle rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.
