Jacksonville Jaguars: Five ideal coaching fits to pair with Trevor Lawrence
By Kyle Edmond
Arthur Smith
Having been with the Tennessee Titans since 2011, Arthur Smith is more than familiar with the AFC South. He’s withstood coaching changes in Tennessee and in a way has followed a similar path to that of Kevin Stefanski. Smith began as Defensive Quality Control coach and worked his way up to Offensive Coordinator.
Smith took over the OC role when Matt LaFleur left for the Green Bay job at the end of the 2018 season. Serving in the role for two years now, Smith has been influential in the reinvention of Ryan Tannehill while also orchestrating the rise of Derrick Henry.
With Mike Vrabel being a defensive-minded head coach in Tennessee, it can be assumed that most of the offensive mastermind material of the Titans is coming from Smith. For a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars that will have a lot of young pieces, including Trevor Lawrence, Smith could be the perfect fit.
At just 38-years old, 39 when the season starts, Smith has a lot of coaching ahead of him. The Jaguars first two coaches lasted at least eight seasons, but since then they haven’t had a coach go longer than a little over four years. Given Smith’s age and background, he has the potential to end that skid.
