This week’s NFL Draft Notes takes a look at how the Jacksonville Jaguars can add some weapons for Trevor Lawrence, a pass rusher the Tennesse Titans could add, a top-10 mock draft and more.

Adding weapons for Trevor Lawrence

With it being pretty much a foregone conclusion that Jacksonville will take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the question becomes what offensive talent will the team surround him with. The biggest concern may be at left tackle as Cam Robinson will be a free agent and it is uncertain if they will resign him.

If Robinson leaves, the team could take a player such as Rashawn Slater of Northwestern if he is still on the board. If he is gone by the time Jacksonville picks with their second first-round selection, a player like Samuel Cosmi of Texas would make sense.

The Jaguars have two second-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft as well and could use these picks to add a couple of offensive playmakers. With their early second-round selection, they could look to add a playmaking receiver to a crop that already has plenty of possession receivers. An undersized playmaker who would fit the bill here would be Rondale Moore of Purdue.

If the team thinks a high second-round pick is too high for Moore, they would likely use this pick to address their defense by adding either a cornerback or defensive line as these areas are also big needs for the team.

Jacksonville would also be wise to add a pass-catching tight end early in the 2021 NFL Draft, and a player that would make sense with their late second-round pick or with a third-round pick is Miami’s Brevin Jordan. Jordan is an athletic tight end that can stretch a defense and is also a good red-zone target. He would be a great security blanket for Lawrence.

An edge rusher option for the Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans’ style of play is to pound the ball and play great defense. Unfortunately, their defense has been far from great this year, ranking in the bottom half in total defense, rush defense and pass defense. They have also struggled to get after the passer, ranking 30th in sacks per game. Due to this pressing need to get some pressure on the quarterback, look for them to add a defensive end or two this offseason.

A player who would make sense with the team’s first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is Penn State defensive end Jayson Oweh. Oweh is an extremely quick edge rusher who recorded five sacks in 2019. He flashes plenty of natural upside and he supposedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds.

The biggest downfall with Oweh is that he is still raw, so he might not produce a ton as a rookie. Due to the team not being able to count on a ton of production from a rookie defensive end, they will likely also bring in a veteran in free agency.

Does Rodgers finally get a new target?

Last year, one of the biggest debates after the draft is why the team would take a quarterback with their first-round pick, instead of giving Aaron Rodgers some much-needed help. I think this could be the year the team addresses this need as they still have a pressing need at the position and it is a wide receiver hungry position.

Currently, the Packers’ leading receiver is Davante Adams, who is undoubtedly a true number one receiver. Unfortunately, he is also the only Packers receiver who is showing he is deserving of a starting spot as both Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard are showing at best they are number three receivers in the NFL.

This leaves the Packers needing a number two receiver going into the 2021 offseason, and the area they will most likely address it is in the draft. The player who would make a lot of sense for them at the end of round one is Rashod Bateman out of Minnesota. Bateman makes sense as he is a polished player who could see significant action next year. He is also a bigger wide receiver coming in at 6-foot-3, which the team tends to like in its receivers.
