New York Jets 2021 Mock Draft: What if the Jets passed on a quarterback?
Despite all that we’ve done so far to build up the secondary, things aren’t quite finished. With the league shifting to more “11” personnel, having a strong nickel corner is important. LSU defensive back Kary Vincent opted out of the 2020 season, which makes his evaluation tricky. Vincent has shown good foot quickness and transitional skills to play in the slot
Now that Mims and Pitts are in place for this offense, why not get another deep threat for Darnold? The wide receiver class has very good depth again in 2021, so finding contributors on day three shouldn’t be too difficult. Dyami Brown has the speed to win vertically in the NFL and is a dynamic presence after the catch.
Finding a change of pace running back isn’t a top need for the New York Jets, but their running back room needs some juice. Jermar Jefferson has been a home run threat all year for the Beavers, and his burst and explosiveness would be welcomed in the Big Apple.
Not all players drafted make immediate impacts on offense or defense, but become core special teamers that provide important depth when called upon. The 2020 Big 12 defensive player of the year, Mike Rose, is the type of player who would be a great addition to any linebacker room and make an instant impact on special teams while developing.
Finishing off the mock draft for the New York Jets is a tackle who isn’t getting enough recognition. Should he be available in the seventh round come draft time, this is an easy decision. Brady Christensen had a very good year for BYU at left tackle and could become a key cog in the Jets offensive line.
