Cleveland Browns: Five first-round targets in the 2021 NFL Draft
By Kyle Edmond
Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia
The Cleveland Browns were expecting to have Andrew Billings this season, but after he opted out there has been a clear hole in the middle of the Cleveland defensive line. Now, Billings could return next year but that doesn’t mean the Browns couldn’t draft a player to fill that spot as well.
Given that there isn’t a dire need for a defensive tackle in Cleveland, this pick could be a little bit of a reach. However, it could be one of those last resort options if everything else is off the board that would still be a step in the right direction.
At 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, Jordan Davis would be a nose tackle type player to insert on running downs who also has the ability to get into the backfield. Davis has only played 26 games for Georgia, totaling 55 tackles over that span with 5.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.
His numbers don’t jump off the stat sheet, but with his size he can have an impact in other ways, creating more clear paths to the quarterback for players like Myles Garrett and Sheldon Richardson.
Being the last resort option in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Davis wouldn’t be a bad pick by any means, but it would be a small letdown compared to the other players on this list.
