2021 NFL Draft: Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson lead trade-filled mock draft
2021 NFL Draft 1st round, 6th pick
Objective number one for the Miami Dolphins in round one of the 2021 NFL Draft: Get Tua Tagovailoa more help.
In this case, the Dolphins are able to snag DeVonta Smith, who is making his debut as WR1 in my mock drafts.
Smith has been absolutely dominant in 2020 for the Crimson Tide, showing off his well-rounded skill set en route to potentially winning the Heisman Trophy.
The Dolphins certainly need to add to their offensive weaponry, and what better way to do that than by bringing in one of Tua Tagovailoa’s favorite targets from when he was slinging the rock at Alabama?
These two already know each other, already have chemistry and timing, and those are so valuable for a young quarterback.
Smith has proven over the course of this season what pretty much everyone already knew — he is a pro wide receiver dominating the college ranks who could have easily been a round one pick if he had come out after 2019.
Smith’s well-rounded game might make it seem like he doesn’t have standout, top-10 type traits, but he is not just a product of Alabama’s tremendous offense. He makes plays after the catch, runs great routes, can win with speed, and makes tough contested catches as well.
