2021 NFL Draft 1st round, 19th pick

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT. Texas. 19. player. Samuel Cosmi. 58

The Washington Football Team is doing exactly what I thought they might leading up to the 2020 season.

Ron Rivera has this team over-achieving a little bit, given the fact that their offense has been a bit of a shambles this season due to injuries or just lack of talented personnel in general.

Defensively, this Washington defense is tough, and with Rivera calling the shots, they are going to be in position to compete in most games.

What does Washington need right now?

Unfortunately, they have openings at the two most important positions on the team: Quarterback and left tackle.

They could certainly move up in a scenario like this for a player like Justin Fields, but with a defense as strong as this one, Washington feels more like a team that will pursue a veteran to me. Would that be someone like Matt Stafford? It could very well be. We know Washington is going to be aggressive and they finally have the defense in place to warrant aggression at the quarterback spot.

If Washington does go after a veteran QB, it seems likely they would use their top pick on a tackle prospect.

Samuel Cosmi has been very strong in pass protection for the Texas Longhorns and is a very good athlete for his size and length. Washington’s trade of Trent Williams during the 2020 NFL Draft signaled they were ready for a youth movement up front.

Getting a player like Cosmi here would be a nice haul, especially if a QB is already in place.
