S. Tariq Thompson. 5. 901. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. San Diego State. player

Tariq Thompson is a versatile defensive back who shows impressive playmaking ability as an in-the-box safety and slot cornerback. He is a strong man-to-man defender who is also a reliable tackler in space. Thompson can come up and offer support against the run and also displays plenty of ability in pass coverage. Simply put, Thompson is a valuable defensive back prospect who has exciting upside at the next level.

Round 5, 171st Overall

Iowa. Alaric Jackson. 5. Pick Analysis. OL. 878. Scouting Report. player

There are worse ways to attack an offensive line need than targeting a pair of Iowa offensive linemen in a single draft. Linderbaum stood out as a strong pick earlier and here, the 49ers double-up on Hawkeyes with the selection of Alaric Jackson.

Jackson has been a strong left tackle at Iowa for four seasons, but may be better suited to move inside at the next level. Jackson is a tough and physical player who is at his best when he is playing forward and allowed to attack. This coupled with his lack of length makes Jackson a better fit to be an offensive guard at the next level. Here, the San Francisco 49ers draft Jackson with the full intention of moving him inside.

Round 5, 176th Overall

Malcolm Koonce is a bit of a raw prospect, but he is a long and athletic edge rusher who undoubtedly has exciting upside at the next level. Koonce is quick off of the ball and shows an impressive ability to bend around the edge. You can never have too many players who can attack the quarterback and Koonce has a chance to grow into an impact player on the edge.
