Los Angeles Chargers top five 2021 NFL Draft needs
2. Interior Offensive Line
The Chargers can certainly re-sign these players if they feel they can be better moving forward, but both Dan Feeney (C) and Forrest Lamp (LG) are free agents in the 2021 offseason.
There are a variety of key offensive starters for the Chargers set to hit free agency in 2021, but even if it’s not about affording each guy, the Chargers will have to determine if they really want continuity with what they currently have.
Veteran Mike Pouncey, who is on IR, is also a free agent in 2021.
The Chargers will need to do some work here, and the 2021 NFL Draft will be intriguing on the interior offensive line. One player to keep an eye on is Iowa Hawkeyes redshirt sophomore Tyler Linderbaum, arguably the top center in college football.
3. Cornerback
The Chargers should have the best secondary in the NFL right now. Unfortunately, injuries have derailed what was one of the best units in the entire league on paper entering the 2020 season.
The Chargers brought in Chris Harris Jr. from their rivals the Denver Broncos and he has played just six games with one pass breakup. He was added to a group that already included veteran Casey Hayward, the underrated Michael Davis, star safety Derwin James, young Nasir Adderley, and slot defender Desmond King.
King was traded, James is on IR, Harris has barely been available, and the future doesn’t look a whole lot better with Davis becoming a free agent after the season.
Casey Hayward and Chris Harris are both on the wrong side of 30, and with the trade of King, the Chargers are going to need to bring in youth at the cornerback position.
If they stay put with their original first-round selection, don’t be surprised if they go after one of Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley or Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II.
