A running back for the Denver Broncos?

It’s more of a need than meets the eye.

The Broncos spent a good amount of cash on free agent Melvin Gordon in the 2020 offseason, and that investment has turned out to be a good one despite some really bad moments from the former first-round pick.

Gordon will be suspended by the NFL in 2021 for a DUI that won’t be settled in court until January. That suspension could be three games, and even though the Broncos have the restricted free agent option for Phillip Lindsay and another year of Royce Freeman, better competition must be brought in.

Michael Carter is fresh off of a 300-yard performance but he’s been strong all season for the Tar Heels, averaging eight yards per carry with 11 total touchdowns (9 rushing, 2 receiving).

He has tremendous vision and short-area quickness and could be the kind of all-around back the Broncos really need with his combination of skills.
