The Denver Broncos appear to have found their linebacker duo of the present and future with Josey Jewell and Alexander Johnson, but how long will they be able to keep both guys?

Jewell will be in a contract year in 2021 and so will Johnson, who will presumably be back to Denver on his 2021 restricted free agent tender.

The Broncos were really high on rookie Justin Strnad, a fifth-round pick out of Wake Forest. He was slated to be the team’s nickel linebacker before a wrist injury landed him on IR.

With Strnad’s status up in the air and the future of the position in question, it might not be a bad idea if the Broncos can take a shot on a player like Chazz Surratt on day two of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Surratt is a fascinating prospect as a former quarterback who has made a very exciting transition to linebacker.

In 24 games, Surratt has 200 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions. In essence, he’s been one of the best defensive playmakers in all of college football since he moved to the defensive side of the football.

The upside is still high, too.

Surratt could be the three-down coverage linebacker the Broncos have been seeking.
