New York Jets seven-round 2021 NFL mock draft: Tearing it down
By Josh Berg
Round 1, Pick 1
There is not much that can be said about Trevor Lawrence that has not been said already. He has the prototypical size of an NFL caliber quarterback at 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds. He is incredibly accurate with the football, especially in tight windows. He showcases incredible IQ in the pocket, knowing when to stay inside the pocket and when to evade pressure and move to his left or right.
With the selection of Lawrence, the New York Jets will likely be trading Sam Darnold to a new team for the 2021 season. The talent is clearly there in glimpses, and a new organization might be good for Darnold to try and salvage his career as a starting quarterback.
New York has to make the right choice here and select Trevor Lawrence. He is the best quarterback prospect in nearly a decade and could be many scouts’ highest-graded prospect ever when it is all said and done. If there are any flaws to his game, not many have found them. He has all the tools to be successful right away in the league.
Whether or not he is successful with the Jets will be up to Joe Douglas and the rest of the organization to successfully build a team around Lawrence. Something they could not do for Sam Darnold or any of their previous quarterbacks this decade. Let’s see what we gave Lawrence to work with in his first year as a New York Jet.
