The Detroit Lions add a top weapon and help on defense in this 2021 mock draft.

The Detroit Lions entered the 2020 season yet again with high expectations, and with seven playoff spots available, a playoff berth felt reasonable for this team. Head coach Matt Patricia was entering a key third season after Detroit went 6-10 and 3-12-1 in his first two campaigns.

After an 0-2 start, the Lions rattled off three wins in four games to even their record at 3-3. Then, things took a turn for the worst, and the Lions lost four of five games, all losses by 14 points or more. Patricia’s seat was already declared warm back in September, and a 16 point loss to an underwhelming Texans team put the nail in the coffin. Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn were fired the day after, and now the Lions will head into a rebuild.

There could be some major changes this offseason. Several wide receivers are free agents after the season, including both Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay.

It’s unlikely, especially with his high cap number, but Detroit could move Matthew Stafford in the offseason. There are plenty of teams in the market for a quarterback, but Stafford at his best is good enough for this team. The problem is the poor roster.

While he hasn’t played poorly, the Trey Flowers deal was a tough sell from the moment he signed. Detroit needs to be hopeful that Julian Okwara can develop on the other side. Both Jarrad Davis and Jahlani Tavai were high draft picks, and neither has panned out at the linebacker position. More production in the secondary would be helpful, and finding a top weapon on the outside for Stafford needs to be a priority in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Here, in this Detroit Lions mock draft, we add a top weapon and much more to help out this roster. Let’s dive in!
