Round 5, 145th Overall

5. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LB. West Virginia. Tony Fields II. 877

Early on this season, it was thought that the linebacker position might be the biggest weakness on the Philadelphia Eagles defense. However, the emergence of Alex Singleton and T.J. Edwards has been a welcomed and necessary surprise.

Because of their solid play, the Eagles now have the luxury of focusing on bigger needs early in the 2021 NFL Draft and can look to add depth to the young unit in the middle to late rounds.

With that in mind, I have Philadelphia making their third straight defensive selection by taking West Virginia linebacker, Tony Fields II, with the 144th overall pick.

Fields II is considered by typical standards to be “undersized” at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds but that doesn’t seem to hinder his game by any means. He flies around the field and is constantly in a position to make a play. His closing speed is eye-popping and for a smaller guy, he does well to use his hands when getting off blocks.

This mock draft now has the Eagles landing Wade, Ford, and Fields which would be one heck of a defensive haul for Philly.

Round 5, 146th Overall

Scouting Report. 5. player. 814. Pick Analysis. IOL. Georgia. Trey Hill

The Philadelphia Eagles went from having one of the best offensive lines in the NFL to arguably the worst in 2020. Albeit due to a ton of injuries, the team should still be looking to add competition to a second unit that has struggled mightily.

With Jason Kelce heading into the final years of his great career and Jason Peters almost certainly heading towards a permeant retirement after a disappointing return this season, the Eagles should focus on improved depth on the interior.

Georgia’s Trey Hill would be a quality target in the mid-to-late rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft. Hill has primarily played center throughout his career with the Bulldogs but has seen some starts at right guard as well. His versatility paired with his short-area quickness and strength at the point of attack would make for a nice addition to a thin interior unit in Philly.
