Chicago Bears make Trey Lance their franchise quarterback in a recent 2021 NFL mock draft
Nothing is more important this offseason for the Chicago Bears than figuring out the quarterback position. The Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles combo simply is not going to get it done and the Bears need to step up and inject some life into the position
In a recent 2021 NFL mock draft by Randy Gurzi of NFL Spin Zone, the Bears get a bit lucky and have Trey Lance fall into their laps at No. 11. COVID-19 has knocked out most of Lance’s final season at North Dakota State. He did play in one game against Central Arkansas, but only has 17 career college starts, all at the FCS level. This could obviously hurt his 2021 NFL Draft stock a bit.
Snagging Lance is the long-term play
Lance is an incredibly gifted quarterback prospect whose raw talent and upside give him massive upside at the next level. He is a tremendous natural athlete who is a dynamic runner with the ball in his hands. He shows an impressive combination of speed, quickness and power that will make him a tremendous weapon in the run game. In today’s NFL, you need to have a quarterback who can move and Lance moves incredibly well.
He also has fantastic natural arm talent that allows him to hit any throw on the field. Lance throws the ball extremely well on the move and places the ball well at all levels of the field. He can stand tall in the pocket, make a quick decision and rip the ball with velocity to his receiver in stride. Lance also improvises well, showing the ability to escape and create when the play breaks down.
Lance is a bit of a raw player who may need some time to develop at the next level. That is obviously not ideal for the Chicago Bears who need a quarterback right now, but they don’t really have a choice in this 2021 NFL mock draft. With the Bears picking at No. 11, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were obviously way gone and Zach Wilson was off of the board as well.

Lance is an extremely gifted prospect who undoubtedly has exciting upside at the next level. This pick may lead to another year of shaky quarterback play while the Bears bring Lance along slowly and let him develop at a proper pace. However, getting this kind of quarterback talent in the room is undoubtedly the right move to make. The Chicago Bears take a significant step forward with the selection of Trey Lance in this 2021 NFL mock draft.
