New York Jets: 3 2021 NFL Draft prospects to pair with Trevor Lawrence
By Kyle Edmond
WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU
Landing Ja’Marr Chase would almost certainly require a trade up, but given that the New York Jets will be looking to move Sam Darnold they might not have to give up as many assets to do so. While Chase and Trevor Lawrence have been on opposite sidelines before, putting them on the same sideline could be a lethal combination.
Chase is arguably the best receiver in the 2021 NFL Draft, so pairing him with the best quarterback in the class would be worth the price of moving up. During the 2020 season, Chase logged 1,780 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns for LSU over 14 games, but that’s about it for his sample size. He hasn’t played this year and only totaled 313 receiving yards in 2018.
At this point, the Jets only have one wide receiver over 500 yards and that’s Jamison Crowder at 503 yards. Denzel Mims, a rookie, only has 324 receiving yards so far. Additionally, Crowder is leading the team in receiving touchdowns with five on the season, including two this past weekend against the Raiders.
Needless to say, the Jets need a big-time receiver for Lawrence to throw the ball to next year. If that means trading up to land Chase, then it would be more than worth it given the current state of the position group.
