New York Jets: 3 2021 NFL Draft prospects to pair with Trevor Lawrence
By Kyle Edmond
RB Travis Etienne, Clemson
One of the easiest ways to take pressure off of a rookie quarterback is to provide a strong run game to fall back on. After letting go of Le’Veon Bell, the Jets running back has featured Frank Gore and Lamical Perine. For that reason, the New York Jets will need to add a running back this offseason and who’s better than a player Trevor Lawrence is already familiar with?
Expected to be the top back in the 2021 NFL Draft, it will be interesting to see if Travis Etienne falls to the Jets’ second pick in the first round. However, if he does this pick seems almost like a no-brainer for New York.
Lawrence and Etienne already have chemistry and this is far from a reach. Etienne has been able to total 4,796 rushing yards over his four years at Clemson, doing so over 53 games thus far. He’s also found the end zone an incredible 68 times, averaging well over a touchdown a game.
Given his high level of play and the fact that he’s already played multiple seasons with Lawrence, this could be the perfect pairing for the Jets to see immediate progress on the offensive side of the ball. There would still be work to complete obviously, but these two players could solve a lot of issues for the offense.
