Justin Fields. 52. Pick Analysis. Ohio State. 2. player. Scouting Report. Quarterback

Now, this is the pick that seems like the real slam dunk for me in the 2021 NFL Draft. With Trevor Lawrence off the board, if the team selecting second is in need of a quarterback like the Jacksonville Jaguars are, I’d run the Justin Fields pick to the podium.

Like Lawrence, Fields is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in football. He is great on designed runs but really thrives when escaping the pocket and extending plays. He keeps his eyes downfield, evades pressure, and delivers from varied arm angles to make spectacular throws.

Fields displays incredible touch on throws to every part of the field. whether it’s a deep bomb or a little swing route, Fields hits his man in stride. He has incredible ball placement with plenty of zip for tight-window throws and to get the ball to the boundary.

Fields is a great leader who plays with swag and confidence. What impresses me is how much he improves week to week. He has shown in recent weeks that he is an improved decision maker and reader of the defense. He could be a bit more decisive at times, but he will surely improve in that area as well.

This week against Michigan State, Fields showed that he can thrive through adversity. With only one of his offensive lineman starting in their normal position and with a center that struggled to even get him the ball, Fields still managed to light up the scoreboard, often making the most out of nearly nothing.

Obviously, he’s not on that level quite yet, but Fields reminds me a lot of Russell Wilson. The way that he plays off sequence and makes plays on the run is very Wilson-like. Both are very mobile quarterbacks who can beat you by running but still try to focus on making the bigger play down the field.

Gardner Minshew was a solid find in the late rounds by the Jaguars, but with a top-two pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, you have to take advantage and find your star. Justin Fields has as good of a shot as any to be a true superstar in the NFL and this seems like a home run pick for whoever is selecting for Jacksonville.
