Pick Analysis. Guard. Wyatt Davis. player. Scouting Report. Ohio State. 16. 42

With the number of injuries that the San Francisco 49ers have sustained this year, it’s kind of hard to judge where they are as a team and what their needs are. Just a season removed from a Super Bowl appearance, the current Niners squad barely resembles that team from a year ago.

But assuming they get these guys back healthy for next year, the 49ers roster seems fairly well rounded still, opening up their options in the 2021 NFL Draft. They could try to grab the best player available or they could figure out what position they really do need.

At this spot in the draft, John Lynch and the boys kind of find a happy medium, filling a need with the best interior offensive lineman in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wyatt Davis is a right guard that is about as well-rounded as they come.

As you want from a big, nasty lineman, Davis isn’t afraid to get down and dirty and dominate in the run game. He blocks with great power, using his strong hands to manipulate defenders. He’s versatile enough to play in a gap or zone rushing scheme, making him a great piece for a Kyle Shanahan offense.

As a mover, Davis is very effective. He is agile in close spaces for pulls and trap blocks with a nasty streak to make an impact down the field as a lead blocker. This ability would really be put to use in the scheme that the 49ers utilize with lots of movement and pullers from their offensive line.

Where Davis really impresses me is as a pass protector. Something that is often overlooked for interior offensive linemen, Davis does a great job at limiting inside rush. He has the pass sets to play tackle if he really needed to, using those strong hands and powerful lower body to keep defenders at bay.

The San Francisco 49ers offensive line seems to play well no matter who is in there, but bringing in a guy like Davis at right guard would make the unit even more dominant. Their offensive line play is what allows them to succeed no matter who is running the ball, and Davis would be an outstanding addition.
