Logical potential first-round 2021 NFL Draft targets for the Dallas Cowboys

The 2020 season has been an absolute disaster for the Dallas Cowboys. Losing Dak Prescott so early in the year was obviously not ideal and it has helped lead to their current 3-8 record. The Cowboys are on the bottom of the worst division in the NFL and are not showing any real signs of turning it around anytime soon. With little left to look forward to with this team, let’s go ahead and look far ahead to the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Dallas Cowboys currently hold the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Obviously, there is a long way to go before we know where the Cowboys will actually be picking, but it is probably safe to assume that it will be early. Which 2021 NFL Draft prospects should they be targeting with their premium pick? Let’s take a look.

Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

The Cowboys have struggled at all levels of the defense for a majority of the year and need to make that side of the ball a priority over the offseason. Patrick Surtain II is one of the best defensive players in the 2021 NFL Draft class and cornerback is an obvious need for the team. He stands out as a clear fit for Dallas early in the draft.

Surtain is a smooth, long and athletic cornerback prospect who always seems to be in a great position on the field. He mirrors extremely well in man coverage and closes ground in an instant. Surtain also shows tremendous natural ball skills and great instincts in zone coverage.

Simply put, he is a strong and stable cornerback prospect who has a safe floor and high ceiling at the next level. Adding Surtain to the mix would immediately give the Dallas Cowboys some much-needed stability at the cornerback position.
