Pick Analysis. LB. Penn State. Micah Parsons. 4. Scouting Report. 123. player

The Dallas Cowboys are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

This is not the best draft class to be getting the first defensive player on the board.

Micah Parsons is a tremendous prospect, to be certain, but does he fit what the Cowboys need the most?

Dallas could explore trading down from this selection to a team that covets a quarterback, but they also might ultimately end up valuing Parsons’ three-down abilities and view him as a true chess piece for their defense.

Parsons can get to the quarterback when called upon, but he flies to the football like no other off-ball linebacker in this class. He can play around the edge, and if Dallas drafted him here, I think they could keep him on the field with Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch for a majority of snaps.

Even though he’s not an elite edge player, Parsons is the best defensive player in this draft and upgrades one of the league’s worst defenses.
