2021 NFL Draft: 14th pick (PROJECTED TRADE)

Scouting Report. QB. player. 14. 46. Pick Analysis. North Dakota State. Trey Lance

The Indianapolis Colts make a move up with the Minnesota Vikings in this mock draft scenario to find their quarterback of the future.

Frank Reich found success in the past with Carson Wentz when he was in Philadelphia, and he might take another shot at a North Dakota State quarterback prospect.

Trey Lance has all of the physical gifts you could ask for from a young quarterback but with just one full year as a starter, his body of work is a bit of a question mark at this point.

Lance simply hasn’t been on the field for a ton of football compared to other guys in this class and that could be a cause for concern.

With that said, the potential he has shown as both a passer and runner is undeniable. Lance has some wheels and is very dangerous when the pocket breaks down. At NDSU, he runs pro-style concepts offensively and they mix in the designed QB runs to take advantage of his skill set.

He can make accurate throws to every level of the field, but how will he respond to the speed of NFL defenders and pass rushers?

This would be a great situation for him as the Colts have a strong supporting cast on both sides of the ball to bring him along.
