2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 21st Overall

28. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Tennessee. 21. OL. Trey Smith. player

Trey Smith is one of the most interesting prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft class. Early in his college career, Smith was a fantastic left tackle who appeared to have an extremely bright future at the position. However, Smith struggled with blood clotting issues that threatened his career and when he returned to the field in 2019, Smith made the move inside to guard.

Smith has been a full-time offensive guard for two years and has quickly grown into an absolutely dominant player at the position. He is quick off of the ball and ridiculously powerful at the point of attack. Smith has strong hands, a powerful lower half and always plays with a nasty streak. He is a dominant run blocker who wins with pure power and tenacity most of the time.

The Las Vegas Raiders love tough and aggressive football players and Smith fits their style perfectly. They want to run the ball with a power rushing attack and win with deep play-action passes when possible. Smith’s ability to clear out rushing lanes on the inside with his incredible natural power makes him an absolutely perfect fit for this team.

Smith may be considered a reach by some in this range and I would not necessarily disagree. That being said, he is a very good football player who will appeal to Jon Gruden and company, while also helping them win the way that they want to. Plus, it is not impossible that Smith makes a return to offensive tackle at the next level and becomes an even more valuable asset.
