2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 2nd Overall

2. Scouting Report. Ohio State. Justin Fields. player. 52. Pick Analysis. QB

In most years, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields would be the clear number one pick in the NFL Draft. Lawrence is a step ahead of him and that is unlikely to change, but it is not a big step. Fields is a tremendous quarterback prospect in his own right, it is just unlucky for him that a generational quarterback is also in the 2021 NFL Draft class. Lawrence is the obvious pick at No. 1 and Fields is arguably even more obvious at No. 2.

In this mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the lucky team to win the Fields sweepstakes. Jacksonville went into the season with full confidence in Gardner Minshew. While Minshew is not a bad player, he is not a true franchise quarterback who can lead a team to a deep postseason run. Minshew is a fringe starting quarterback in the NFL and replacing him with a guy like Fields is an easy decision to make.

Similar to Lawrence, Fields has an incredible combination of arm talent and athleticism. He is a tremendous playmaker with the ball in his hands who escapes the pocket well and can make throws on the run. He has an extremely live arm, showing the ability to hit the deep ball with consistency and fit passes into tight space with impressive velocity.

Fields also shows incredible anticipation with his passes, understanding how to throw his receivers open and lead them into the most advantageous situations. Simply put, Justin Fields is an elite quarterback prospect who would completely reshape the future of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville has some nice young talent on the roster already, but Fields could be the piece that takes them over the top.
