2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 18th Overall

EDGE. Texas. player. 35. Pick Analysis. Scouting Report. Joseph Ossai. 18

Assuming the Tennessee Titans decide to not bring Jadeveon Clowney back over the offseason, edge rusher stands out as the most obvious need on their roster. Harold Landry is a solid young player, but the Titans need to invest more long-term resources in the position going forward. Here at No. 18 overall, Tennessee makes a significant defensive addition by bringing Joseph Ossai into the mix.

Ossai has played as both an edge rusher up front and an off-ball linebacker on the Texas defense. He shows plenty of ability at both positions, but he should primarily be looked at as an disruptive force on the edge going forward.

Ossai is an explosive and long athlete who gets off of the ball and up the field quickly. He shows impressive bend around the edge and closes on the quarterback in an instant. Ossai also sets the edge relatively well and has a nose for the football in the run game. His time as an off-ball linebacker also makes him a valuable weapon when asked to drop back into coverage.

The Titans are a good football with few holes on either side of the ball. It is difficult to find players who can come in and make an immediate impact for this team, but Ossai feels like one who can. He is a tough and athletic edge rusher who would at least be a major asset for the Titans on obvious passing downs.
