2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 15th Overall

47. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. TE. Florida. Kyle Pitts. 15. player

As per usual, it is going to be difficult to predict what the New England Patriots will do this offseason. They could certainly use some offensive firepower, but Bill Belichick and company do not typically invest in the offensive skill positions early in the draft. When they have in recent years (Sony Michel and N’Keal Harry) it has not really worked out.

That being said, the Patriots must add more weapons to their offensive attack if they expect to be competitive going forward. Luckily for them, the 2021 NFL Draft class is loaded with offensive firepower and the Patriots will have an opportunity to improve at wide receiver and tight end if they wish.

Dipping into the deep wide receiver class here is certainly tempting, but Florida tight end Kyle Pitts is the pick. Pitts is essentially a big wide receiver who is listed as a tight end. He does not bring much to the table as a blocker but is a consistent matchup nightmare in the passing game. Pitts is too big for most defensive backs and too fast and athletic for most linebackers.

He releases at the line of scrimmage extremely well, attacks the ball in the air at a high level and is extremely difficult to bring down once he gets the ball in his hands. Pitts is a fantastic offensive playmaker who would give the Pats some much-needed impact talent in the passing attack. While he may not be the most complete tight end around, Pitts is undoubtedly an exciting player with tremendous upside.
