2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 13th Overall

OT. Texas. Samuel Cosmi. 13. player. 87. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Linebacker and cornerback are probably more obvious positions of need for the Carolina Panthers at this point in the process, but by the time the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around, offensive tackle could easily be at the top of the list. Both Taylor Moton and Russell Okung are unrestricted free agents over the offseason, and Greg Little has not yet established himself as a reliable starter. If Carolina loses one of Moton or Okung in free agency, expect to see them take a tackle early.

With this in mind, the Panthers make Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi the pick here at No. 13. Cosmi has not been getting quite as much hype as other offensive tackle prospects in this class, but his athletic upside up front is impressive and makes him a valuable selection in this range.

Cosmi is an easy mover who gets out of his stance into position quickly in pass protection and as a run blocker. He is quick off of the ball and shows fantastic natural mirror ability in pass protection. Cosmi also shows solid power at the point of attack and always takes strong angles when attacking the second level as a run blocker.

Cosmi does have some sloppy footwork and hand usage that must be cleaned up at the next level. However, the raw skill-set is certainly there for him to become a premier player at the left tackle position.
