2020 NFL Draft: 5 offensive rookies to watch in second half of the season
By Kyle Edmond
The NFL season has surpassed the halfway point, so what offensive rookies taken in the 2020 NFL Draft could emerge from now until the end of the season?
The NFL season is well past the halfway point of the season and there are a few rookies who are standing out from the rest. Justin Herbert has shocked many with his consistent play for the Chargers while offensive linemen like Tristan Wirfs and Jedrick Wills have been influential in their teams’ success so far.
Outside of the first round, there have also been surprises. Chase Claypool has been a breakout player this season, continuing a long line of Pittsburgh Steeler wide receivers to perform at a high level early in their careers.
Of course, there are also the expected stars like Joe Burrow who has been able to carry over his LSU play to the Bengals. The results haven’t shown in the record yet, but the future is bright in Cincinnati.
However, the second half of the NFL season usually brings with it more rookies emerging from the masses and making a name for themselves. The 2020 NFL Draft has already produced a handful of stars in the making, but it can be assumed that we’re far from the end of the top talent from the class.
Whether it be impressing in practice and moving up the depth chart or being given the opportunity to play due to injuries sustained by others on the roster, more rookies will continue to see the field as the season goes on. Players on the offensive side of the ball could especially start to catch on, now having had plenty of time with the playbook.
So as we move into the second half and the last leg of the season, what players should be on the radar to watch for a breakout performance? Here are five to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and beyond as they have the potential to become NFL stars of tomorrow.
