Jaguars 2021 mock draft: Justin Fields leads the rebuild project
5. Third round: Richard LeCounte III, S, Georgia
The Jaguars’ first defensive player in this mock draft is a guy who is frankly going to help whatever NFL team he lands with get the ball back for the offense frequently.
Richard LeCounte may not have the best traits of any defensive back prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he might be the best overall sum of his parts.
An instinctive player and former five-star recruit, LeCounte has emerged as a ‘veteran’ leader on the Georgia defense and is creating takeaways at a high rate for their defense. In his last 19 games, LeCounte has seven interceptions, a pair of forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.
He plays the safety position like he’s already a pro, and he’s going to have an easy transition to the next level.
The Jaguars obviously overhauled their safety position in the past couple of years, so LeCounte could be an early starter and impact player for this defense.
