Jaguars 2021 mock draft: Justin Fields leads the rebuild project
2. First round, second pick: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
The Jaguars will possibly have to deal with left tackle Cam Robinson hitting free agency in the 2021 offseason.
If that’s the case, they will be in the market for a new starting left tackle, and with a young quarterback coming in, there is not a more important investment the Jaguars could make.
Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw has had one of the best seasons of any college offensive lineman and is one of the top risers in the 2021 NFL Draft class.
Going into the 2020 season, everyone knew that Darrisaw was an excellent run blocker, but he has really been tremendous as a pass protector this year.
Darrisaw’s agility and ability to move people in the running game will be huge for the Jaguars, who will obviously want the running game to set up their passing game, but it will also be huge for them to have a talent like this blocking for Justin Fields’ blind side.
It’s entirely possible that Darrisaw will price himself out of Jacksonville’s range with this pick when all is said and done, but don’t rule out a move up for a left tackle if they are able to secure Fields.
