Denver Broncos 2021 mock draft: Is Drew Lock still the guy?
2. Second round: Carlos Basham, EDGE, Wake Forest
The Denver Broncos have an underrated need for depth off the edge, and Carlos Basham could be a perfect fit for their defense.
Bradley Chubb has had stretches of dominant play, but he’s drawing a ton of attention without Von Miller on the field.
While Malik Reed has proven capable in Miller’s place, the Broncos could upgrade behind Miller and Chubb off the edge, and Basham has the versatility to rush off the edge as well as play with his hands in the dirt and set the edge as almost a 5T defensive end.
Basham has impressive production over the past three seasons and his body of work is not too dissimilar from that of Bradley Chubb at NC State. They are obviously different kinds of players, but Basham has enough of a variety of pass rush moves combined with speed and strength to make an instant impact at the next level.
So far in 2020, he’s got five sacks and four forced fumbles in six games, giving him 15 sacks and seven forced fumbles over his last 19 contests.
