5. Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

After a really strong finish to the 2019 season in relief of eventual top-five pick Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones has been outstanding to start the 2020 campaign for Alabama.

Jones is showing tremendous poise in the pocket, and he is delivering accurate throws to every level of the field.

So far in 2020, he has a completion percentage of 78.5 on 177 attempts. He has made very few poor decisions with the football, and it’s not like he is dinking and dunking all the way down the field. He’s averaging 13.7 air yards per attempt and 15.8 yards per completion.

The Alabama receiver group is obviously very good, but Jones is also dealing with the loss of both Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy as well as Jaylen Waddle, who was lost this season to injury.

What Jones has done this season is really put himself in the conversation for the top 40 or so selections, maybe even higher. In a normal season, he would be on pace for 35-40 touchdown passes, even considering how much Alabama has given the ball to Najee Harris when they are in scoring range this year.

Jones is running Steve Sarkisian’s offense to perfection and seeing the field exceptionally well. His time on task as a sophomore with Tua Tagovailoa injured was a launching off point for Jones to really prove himself and establish himself as a legitimate NFL prospect and someone with starter qualities as soon as the 2021 season.
