Washington takes QB with first pick from Jags

QB. Scouting Report. North Dakota State. Trey Lance. 5. player. 58. Pick Analysis

As it currently stands, the Washington Football Team should be looking to draft a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. There’s a chance that Alex Smith comes back and impresses to win the job back. There’s a chance that Kyle Allen flips a switch after becoming the starter on a Ron Rivera led team for the second consecutive year. However, odds are there will be a new quarterback in Washington in 2021.

In this case, it’s Trey Lance. Washington moves down to acquire a second pick in the first round and still land their quarterback of the future. With Carson Wentz in Philadelphia, Lance would become the second North Dakota State quarterback currently starting in the NFC East, assuming Lance wins the job and Wentz keeps his.

The hype around the top two quarterbacks in this class has started to drown out the others a bit and Lance could become a victim of that. He’s still a very strong candidate but doesn’t have the pull that Lawrence or Fields does. Similarly, North Dakota State doesn’t receive the coverage that Clemson or Ohio State does.

It will be more of a battle for Lance to land in the top five, but given his ability and potential, it’s very likely that someone pulls the trigger. In this case, it’s the Washington Football Team.
