Tampa Bay DLine gets youth injection

DT. Florida State. 48. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Marvin Wilson. 21. player

While Vita Vea has been impressive when healthy, he’s only one part of the defensive line and when he goes down, like this year, the Bucs defensive line would be awesome, if this was five years ago. As it currently stands, Tampa Bay is rolling out Ndamukong Suh and Steve McClendon as well as Jason Pierre-Paul.

McClendon came over in a trade and Suh has become a regular free agent add for the Buccaneers. With Vea healthy, he can take McClendon’s spot. As for the draft pick Marvin Wilson, he could take the reigns from Suh.

Suh is still a strong player, but there is no question that he’s in the last leg of his career. Tampa Bay can get out ahead by drafting Wilson. Suh can still very easily stick around, turning the group into a rotation to keep fresh legs on the field.

Once Wilson is groomed and ready, he can take over the spot full time, giving the Buccaneers a strong and young duo with Wilson and Vea for the next handful of years. For a team like Tampa Bay who is in win-now-mode, this type of move can keep them in the thick of things without missing a beat or having to overpay for a player in free agency.
