The Cowboys continue to address their obvious defensive needs by taking TCU safety Trevon Moehrig in the second round of this mock draft. Moehrig is a rangy and athletic safety prospect who shines in deep coverage. He has fantastic instincts in coverage and does a great job of attacking the ball in the air.
Cornerback may be the biggest need on the Dallas roster, but safety is not far behind. Xavier Woods will be a free agent this offseason and whether they are able to bring him back or not, they need to address the position. Moehrig is an impact defender who would undoubtedly be an immediate upgrade for Dallas on the back-end.

More defensive help is on the way as the Dallas Cowboys use their extra second-round pick to bring in edge rusher Patrick Jones II. Jones has been absolutely dominant this season and is establishing himself as one of the premier edge rushers in the 2021 NFL Draft class. Make no mistake about it, Jones would be an absolute steal in this range.
The Cowboys do not have as much of a need up front as they do in the secondary, but it is not like they are loaded with high-level rushers on the edge. Jones has an explosive first step and does a great job of creating consistent pressure around the edge. He may be more of a part-time player at the start, but Jones undoubtedly has a high ceiling as a speed rusher at the next level.
