49ers 2021 mock draft: Trading up for BYU QB Zach Wilson.

The San Francisco 49ers are going to be a very intriguing team to watch on the quarterback market in the 2021 offseason and throughout the 2021 NFL Draft.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has proven to be a borderline liability when it comes to his durability, suffering two season-ending injuries in the past three seasons. The 49ers’ success as a team has been directly tied to Garoppolo’s health.

Even though he is not the most gifted quarterback in the NFC West, Garoppolo has been a catalyst for the 49ers that is undeniable. He is 22-8 in games he has started for the 49ers, and that doesn’t include his playoff run in 2019 which would push his overall record to 24-9.

In the 16 games Garoppolo has started over the past three seasons (2018, 2020) the 49ers are 4-12.

As impactful as Garoppolo has been for the 49ers, the fact that he has missed 16 games and counting over the last three seasons has to give John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan a bit of pause when thinking about putting all of their eggs in the Jimmy G. basket moving forward.

How could the 49ers move on? Is it time for a youth movement?

Although the San Francisco roster might be better off with a veteran at the helm, there is a chance they could go with the strategy of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 and keep Garoppolo for one more year while grooming his replacement.

Here is a mock draft scenario for the 2021 NFL Draft that, at least right now, could make a lot of sense for the 49ers.
