The New England Patriots gave a one-year audition to Cam Newton, and up to this point, it’s not clear if he’s going to be the guy going forward.
Newton took a small contract with the Patriots, who were low on cash according to Bill Belichick, in hopes that he could likely parlay it into a huge deal in 2021.
The former MVP has been solid running the football, but spotty at best throwing it.
In six games, Newton has just two touchdown passes compared to seven interceptions and has taken 12 sacks.
He doesn’t look like his former MVP self.
The Patriots have installed an offense this year, however, that would be perfect for NDSU star quarterback prospect Trey Lance. Even with the ascent of Zach Wilson, Lance has a shot at the top 10 picks.
He could be the QB of the future everyone has been waiting for New England to take since Tom Brady was in his late 30s.
