2021 NFL Draft: New mock draft with Justin Fields, Zach Wilson rising
There can be no doubt.
Trevor Lawrence is the best player in the 2021 NFL Draft class and he will be the top pick unless he refuses to play for the Jets.
It doesn’t seem likely he or any player would exercise their right to do that (hasn’t been done since 2004), but you never know.
The Jets will almost assuredly have a new head coach in 2021 and Sam Darnold’s injuries in 2020 make his future with the organization murky at best.
A fresh start is necessary for Darnold and the Jets, especially if they can move on by getting Trevor Lawrence.
Where would Darnold end up? Pittsburgh? Indianapolis? Denver? Somewhere else?
There are no shortage of options there as Darnold would likely be a pretty coveted option by teams looking to buy on the low end.
Lawrence will need help. The Jets, thankfully, have a cornerstone piece at left tackle in Mekhi Becton. He will help keep Lawrence upright, but there is more work to be done. With Denzel Mims looking promising early on, the Jets will need to make savvy offseason moves to surround Lawrence with the best group of talent possible to not stunt his growth.
