Round 1, 28th Overall

Pick Analysis. QB. BYU. Zach Wilson. 28. Scouting Report. player. 861

Lawrence, Fields and Lance stand out as the top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft class. If Washington is in a position to land one of those top three, they will likely pull the trigger on a new quarterback. If they are not, I could see this team aggressively attacking the next tier of quarterback prospects in the class.

Right now, Zach Wilson is likely QB4 in the class and is worthy of a first-round selection. Instead of sitting back and hoping for the best, the Washington Football Team trades back into the first round here in order to take Wilson and make him their new franchise quarterback.

More from NFL Mocks

Wilson is having an incredible junior season, completing 75% of his passes for 2,511 yards, 21 touchdowns and only two interceptions through eight games. He has also been a dynamic playmaking with his legs, adding eight rushing touchdowns to his gaudy stat line.

Wilson is feasting on lesser college competition, but he is also showing legitimate NFL skills that will likely translate well to the next level. He is a fantastic improviser in the pocket, showing great awareness and the athleticism needed to escape and make plays on the run. Wilson senses pressure extremely well and does a great job of keeping his eyes down-field and looking for the big play.

While he does not have the biggest arm in the class, Wilson puts enough zip on his passes to fit the ball into tight spaces and can also throw a pretty deep ball on the run. Wilson also throws with great anticipation and shows strong accuracy to all levels of the field.

Make no mistake about it, this guy is an exciting quarterback prospect who has a high ceiling at the next level. He is a bit of a project player, but his strengths as an improviser fit the modern NFL well and undoubtedly increase his ability to have success. Making an aggressive move for Wilson after adding Chase to the mix early would give Washington an extremely interesting group of players in the passing game worth getting excited about.
