Round 2, 43rd Overall

Pick Analysis. Florida State. Marvin Wilson. 804. Scouting Report. IDL. 2. player

Landing Marvin Wilson in this range almost seems unfair, but he has taken a step back this season and his 2021 NFL Draft stock appears to be slipping. Wilson entered the season as one of the premier defensive prospects in the class, but he has not been a consistent impact player for Florida State this season.

It seems to be a bit of a competitive toughness issue as Wilson is not playing to his highest ability on a poor Florida State team. However, when he is on, Wilson is a dominant defensive tackle who wins with incredible natural power and quick feet for such a big man.

He can create consistent pressure as a one-gap penetrator and also hold two-gap responsibility at a high level. Whatever you need this guy to do, he can do it. The sky is the limit with this prospect and the New England Patriots could certainly use a player like him in the middle of their defense.

Round 3, 96th Overall

Pick Analysis. QB. player. 829. Scouting Report. Alabama. Mac Jones. 3

The Patriots receive a third-round compensatory pick in this mock draft and use it to select Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. While Jones is certainly a rising prospect who could end up going much earlier than this, he is available here and makes a ton of sense for the Pats.

Jones has been slinging the ball all over the field for Alabama this season, showing more arm talent than expected. Jones is a good decision-maker who reads the field extremely well and shows impressive ball placement to all levels of the field.

Unless Newton absolutely balls out for the rest of the season, the Patriots should be looking for a potential long-term answer at the quarterback position this offseason. Jones stands out as a player who would fit their team well and you cannot argue with the value of the pick in this mock draft.
