2021 NFL Draft: Five NFL stars who could be traded during the draft
By Kyle Edmond
Julian Edelman, WR, New England Patriots
While Julian Edelman thrived in the Tom Brady offense, he hasn’t had the same luck this year with the trio of quarterbacks that the Patriots have put under center. Playing in six games, Edelman has just 21 catches and no touchdowns in 2020. With one year left on his deal, Edelman could become a trade target for a team looking to stretch out his career.
At 34-years old, Edelman could call it quits following the season and no one would think any different. He’s had an impressive career out of Kent State, but there still might be some fire left. He tallied more than 1,100 receiving yards just last season and will want to go out on a better season than the one he is currently having.
Given where Edelman is in his career, it might be the perfect time for Bill Belichick to cash out what he can get in return. It won’t be a first-round pick, but there are plenty of teams in the NFL who could offer a mid-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft for a security blanket like Edelman.
Any team with a young quarterback could be looking to add a veteran receiving with reliable hands to help develop the quarterback and gain confidence. Edelman would fill that role perfectly and it might be his best bet to have a productive 2021 season.
