Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints

The 2020 season has not been kind to Michael Thomas after a historic season in 2019. It was just a year ago that Thomas was atop the NFL for receptions (149), receiving yards (1,725) and yards per game (107.8). However, just a year later, Thomas has been plagued by injuries and off-the-field issues that have led him to play just one game through seven weeks so far this season.

While it has since been indicated that Thomas was hurt during his one game of action, his stat line was far below what we’ve come to expect from him. He was targeted just five times and hauled in three of those passes for a grand total of 17 yards.

There’s still time for Thomas to right the ship this season and many in the Saints’ organization are hoping he can do so, but if he can’t, then he could very well become a 2021 NFL Draft trade target.

At 27-years old, Thomas has plenty of playing left in him and could draw interest from pretty much all 31 teams that don’t have him currently. He just recently inked a massive contract, but that also means that the team trading for him could have him for the next four or more seasons.

If Thomas continues to struggle through 2020 the way he has, the New Orleans Saints might begin exploring avenues to move on from the star wide receiver. Without him, the team is still 4-2 and has found other ways to produce his stats. If the team does decide to move on, Thomas could draw one of the biggest blockbuster trades the NFL has ever had.
