While Trevor Lawrence is expected to be the first quarterback off the board, he isn’t the only one that will be able to alter the course of a franchise from the quarterback position. Justin Fields is also set to enter the draft and has at times rivaled Lawrence for the title of best quarterback in the class.

The difference between Fields and Lawrence is athleticism. Lawrence is a thrower first and can run if needed, while Fields can do both at the same level. Lawrence fits more of Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes type quarterbacks who can extend plays by running while Fields is more of a Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson in the way that he can create plays by running.

Who goes first in the 2021 NFL Draft between Lawrence and Fields could come down to the style of quarterback the team drafting wants for the future. Luckily, both players are dynamic in their own way and have the ability to transform a franchise nearly overnight.

Fields is talked about for his running ability because it sets him apart from Lawrence, but his ability to throw the ball is just as impressive. During the 2019 season, he threw 41 touchdowns and had just three interceptions while totaling 3,272 passing yards.

Being able to do it all, and do it all well, will put Fields at the top of the 2021 NFL Draft and eventually the top of the NFL as well.
