Las Vegas Raiders: 2021 is Gruden’s chance to finish the rebuild
By Ian Higgins
2020 Starters: Damon Arnette, Trayvon Mullen
Like the defensive front, Gruden has also molded the Raiders secondary into a modern rendition of old-school football. With a violent physical man-to-man defense, Las Vegas only follows New England as the defense most devoted to their man-coverage philosophy.
2020 draft selection Damon Arnette was brought in to be one of the high-pressure corners leading this defense, carrying the reputation from man-corner factory Ohio State.
Former teammate Shaun Wade is another product of the Ohio State secondary which has brought us the likes of Jeff Okudah and Bradley Roby. Wade yet again follows this aggressive man-trail philosophy with a prototypical six-foot-one frame.
Wade displays fluid hips and the ability to keep on the hip of route-runners and sprinters alike.
Wade trails some of his fellow prospects within position group rankings, but his college resume speaks to his fit within the right scheme.
With fellow man-corner Arnette across the formation and punishing safety Johnathan Abrams either playing robber-coverage or centerfield, Wade could be a piece to push the Raiders pass-defense over the top.
