2020 NFL Trade Deadline: One trade each team should make
Chicago Bears
The Bears find themselves in legitimate contention in the NFC playoff picture, but also a little thin at running back. With Tarik Cohen on IR, Chicago could use a solid third-down/receiving back.
David Montgomery has struggled to stay healthy himself, so Bernard would provide valuable depth at the position.
Detroit Lions
The Lions haven’t seemed to be utilizing Marvin Jones Jr. all that much lately. And with the way things are looking in Detroit, veteran guys like Jones may be on their way out. In return, they get a solid draft pick and some much-needed depth in the secondary.
While Jamie Collins has played well for the Lions and is likely one of Matt Patricia’s “guys” from their days in New England, Patricia may not be around for long, and that defense desperately needs help in the secondary.
Robinson has been solid for the Saints and Detroit has some young linebackers that could step up if Collins is moved at the NFL trade deadline.
Green Bay Packers
In what would be the trade of the 2020 NFL trade deadline, the Green Bay Packers make a huge splash and go out and get one of the absolute best wide receivers in the league. In arguably the biggest trade in years, star wide receiver Julio Jones becomes a victim of the Atlanta purge. Where does he land? With one Aaron Rodgers who has something to prove.
The Pack made the NFC Championship Game a year ago and after a disappointing loss to Tom Brady and the Bucs, they need to prove that they have what it takes to grab the wide-open conference. The front office was ridiculed this draft season for not getting Rodgers any new weapons. It doesn’t get much better than Julio Jones.
The Pack gets a little more help at another position of need. The Green Bay linebackers have been less than stellar this year after the departure of Blake Martinez and free agent replacement Christian Kirksey has found his way back to the IR. Perryman hasn’t played much for the Chargers this season and would get a chance to contribute for a playoff-caliber team.
Minnesota Vikings
I originally had the Vikings trading for former Buffalo Bill guard Quinton Spain here, but he has since been released. Spain has not seen the field a whole lot with the solid offensive line depth that the Bills possess, so he could find a new home in Minnesota whose guard play has been downright terrible this season (66 and 75 PPF).
Similarly, Stills has not been utilized much in Houston after the acquisition and recent resurgence of Brandin Cooks. The Vikings have two top-five wide receivers according to PFF (1 and 4) in Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen but lack a real viable third option. Their current offense doesn’t really require one, but another deep threat never hurts.
