Robert Saleh, San Francisco 49ers Defensive Coordinator

Many thought that Robert Saleh would be a head coach in 2020, but instead, he’s back on the 49ers’ sideline. While this year hasn’t been as kind as in the past for Saleh, his past success should be enough to put him back in the conversation.

Some in San Francisco are calling for Saleh to be fired, but he’s working with a shell of the defense that was built, seeing multiple key players go down for the season with injuries. Instead, teams need to look to last year’s success when evaluating Saleh.

During the 2019 season, Saleh had the 49ers defense playing at an elite level, being ranked the second-best defense in the league and the best passing defense as well. Even with all the injuries, San Francisco has still allowed the fifth-fewest yards on offense so far in 2020.

Being just 41-years old, Saleh is a name that should come up frequently in the search for the next wave of head coaches. Unfortunately, teams will look at this season as well which could hurt his chances. Hopefully, he at least is given a few interviews and maybe the potential to have his own team going into the 2021 NFL Draft.
