Eric Bieniemy, Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator

This coming offseason won’t be the first time that Eric Bieniemy has been brought up in head coach conversations, but it will hopefully be last. Now in his third season as the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs, Bieniemy should be at the top of everyone’s list.

The argument against Bieniemy is that the success isn’t his, and that’s understandable. He’s benefited from the play of Patrick Mahomes and the mentorship of Andy Reid, but he would be far from the first Andy Reid disciple to become a head coach. Reid has helped mentor head coaches like John Harbaugh, Doug Pederson, Matt Nagy and others that have combined for multiple Lombardi trophies.

Since Bieniemy was named the offensive coordinator, Kansas City has been Top 10 in offensive yards and points each season as well as having a Top 5 passing offense for yards and touchdowns. Again, some of that comes with having Mahomes, but Bieniemy deserves some of the credit.

At 51-years old, Bieniemy fits the mold that most teams are looking for in their next head coach. He’s an offensive mind that has been a key part of producing an annual Super Bowl contender. He’s a bit older than the head coaches we’re seeing get hired, but hopefully, he will be a head coach by the time the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around.
