Adam Gase, New York Jets (0-5)

There’s no sense in delaying this one as the writing has been on the wall for a long time. As it currently stands, the New York Jets are one of three winless teams in the NFL. The Falcons already fired their coach and the Giants are in their first year with Joe Judge. As for Adam Gase and the Jets, this firing is long overdue.

While the record is the main talking point this season, it really is just the tip of the iceberg. Gase has managed to run out majority of the playmakers in New York, including an angry Jamal Adams and underutilized Le’Veon Bell. He also seems to be doing the same with Sam Darnold, who will miss his second consecutive game this week after attempting to urge Gase to play him last week.

On top of that, the production on the field has been lackluster all year. The Jets have scored just 75 points so far this season, the fewest of any team while also being the only team in the league to have not eclipsed 80 points yet. That’s not a great look for a coach known for his offensive mind. Unfortunately, it’s not just the offense either.

The New York defense has also allowed 161 points, tied for the second-most in the league. The Dallas Cowboys lead the way with 180 points allowed and the Falcons have also given up 161.

The winless record, the upset players, the poor offensive performance and the somehow better, but still very bad defense is more than enough for the Jets to cut ties with Gase at any point moving forward. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they let him go after this weekend if they lose.

The only thing Gase has going for him is that the Jets don’t really change head coaches in the middle of the season. The last time that happened was 1976 when Mike Holovak replaced Lou Holtz who had resigned.
