Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond is taking his 2021 NFL Draft stock to the next level.

Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance stand above the rest of the quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft class. The race for QB4 is on with Florida’s Kyle Trask likely leading the way at the moment. However, another SEC quarterback could be entering the race, as Kellen Mond out of Texas A&M appears to be taking his game to the next level.

Through three games this season, Mond has completed 62.6% for 845 yards, seven touchdowns and only one interception. He had arguably the best game of his college career last Saturday  against Florida, completing 25-of-35 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns. He out-dueled Trask, showing impressive poise in the pocket and slinging the ball all over the field the Aggies’ 41-38 win.

Digging into Mond’s game

Mond has always had impressive natural arm talent, showing the ability to hit nearly any throw on the field. His accuracy is inconsistent, but there are certainly times where Mond will hit his receivers with pin-point accuracy and fantastic timing.

He is strong and stable in the pocket, sensing pressure well and displaying enough athleticism to escape and create a bit with his legs. Mond is not an elite playmaker as a runner, but he certainly has some dual-threat upside.

Consistency and decision-making have been the biggest issues for Mond over the years. He appears to be a cleaner player this season, but he still tends the force the ball into tight windows more often than one would like to see. Mond is undoubtedly a talented quarterback prospect, but he is unlikely to get away with some of these risky throws at the next level.

Next. Five NFL QBs who could be traded. dark

The 2021 NFL Draft class is begging for a guy like Mond to step up and become a legitimate high-level prospect. While I do not see Mond jumping into the first-round conversation anytime soon, he is undoubtedly an interesting player who is worth investing in during the middle rounds. With proper development, Mond undoubtedly has the upside to grow into a legitimate starter at the next level.
