With Casey Hayward, Desmond King, and Chris Harris Jr., you wouldn’t think the Chargers would be in the market for a cornerback this early in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Both Harris and Hayward are 31 years old, King is a slot player and was the subject of offseason trade rumors, and the Chargers can’t really afford for their defensive backfield to regress with all they have invested in their pass rush.

Patrick Surtain looks like he’s going to be a phenomenal NFL cornerback and an instant starter wherever he goes.

One of the best man cover cornerbacks in all of college football, Surtain can shut down his side of the field completely, and if the Chargers have to move on from either guy they would probably love to put a young budding star like this on the outside.
